2026: The Year of the Boulders of Blessings

Yucahu Kachi Areito: Guidance for the Year of Blessings

This guidance arrives during the time of the Wahil Karaya Kati (the Grouper New Moon). The Wahil teaches us that we already possess the gifts and abilities necessary for life’s journeys; it reminds us to provide for the next generation. This fish is named the Grouper because of its breeding method: large groups give birth en masse during the full moons between December and January.

This coincides with the Yucahu Kachi Areito and the start of the dry season. From the shortest day of the year, daylight and energy grow until day and night are equal, eventually reaching the longest day of the year on the Summer Solstice.

The Guidance Received

The ancestors have cleared a path from their celestial cave at the mountain top in the east. This path, forged through strong winds and water, allows them the freedom to send us blessings—some large and some small—hurled toward us with unheard-of speed.

Be prepared: If we are not ready to receive these blessings, they may be perceived as obstacles or feel like "too much" to hold within our own spaces. 2026 begins the process of receiving, but it comes with specific tests:

  • For Healers: Those who seek to heal may experience moments of illness so they may share the wisdom of recovery, the plants to use, and where to find them.

  • For the Kind: Those who seek kindness may encounter people who treat them with disdain, providing opportunities to manifest the guidance and abundance of the Great Spirit.

  • For the Creative: Those with the gift of adaptability may find themselves in spaces requiring ingenuity. As old systems break and foreign forces enter our spaces, those who have taken titles must now prove themselves.

  • For Peacekeepers: If you call yourself a peacekeeper, battles will be created for you to bring peace.

Be mindful: Because the path to the ancestors is clear, be careful what you ask for; your words echo in the celestial cave. Use your gifts, give back to Atabey, and clear your internal and external spaces.

Interpretation: Global Shift & The Joseph Principle

The freedom the ancestors speak of is global, not exclusive to Yamayeka (Jamaica). The winds of the Huracan have been stirring the entire globe. In 2025, disasters affected over 38.1 million people across 72 countries. These are the results of waves created by those seeking to maintain systems of dominance that are not based on natural law.

The old systems are weak and power is shifting. These are the "ripples" mentioned in the 2025 reading that will last for the next four years. Old rituals intended to hold nations down have been washed away by water and buried by earthquakes.

The Need for Discernment Be patient and discerning with your requests of the Creator. Do your best to remain in balance, as natural laws and energies will be amplified. Consider the story of Joseph and his multicolored coat: he had a vision of seven years of abundance and seven years of famine. His connection to the Creator allowed him to rise to a position of great power in Egypt.

Likewise, we must use discipline to put action to our words and desires. Show dedication and faith in your chosen path, and trust the process.

The Strength of Community The ancestors emphasized community for a reason: you may not be prepared to house the "boulder" and all its blessings on your own.

  • Find others of like mind to share the weight and the bounty.

  • Create a legacy for your descendants.

  • Store and sustain the blessings to come, using them to propel your purpose as part of the bigger picture of life.

The spirits shared imagery of boulders rolling toward us. Many will be intimidated and run, but if you trust your power and the old ways, you will be anchored for the rapid transformation ahead.

Yuca Kati (Cassava Moon )

Yuca Kishibu Kati (Cassava Full Moon) will be on December 4th.

The primary crop cultivated by the Taino Indians was Yuca/Cassava. It was planted in the Conucos (a small plot of cultivated land) using a Coa (a kind of hoe made completely out of wood). From the Yuca/Cassava the Tainos made the baked cassava flatbread, which became a main part of their diet.

When Christopher Columbus and his Spaniard team first arrived to the Hispaniola Island (Dominican Republic and Haiti) in 1492, they found that cassava bread had advantages over their traditional European bread, in that it does not go stale or moldy. For this reason, the Spaniards took this durable cassava flatbread to other parts of the continent as they continued their conquest of America.
excerpt from http://www.hispaniolacassava.com/cassava-story.html

Oviedo recorded that our ancestors planted their Yuca at the start of the lunar month so that the crop grew with the phases of the moon. They also encouraged growth by placing or burying zemi figures of stone or wood in the conuco (garden) to protect the crop and ensure its potency.

Today, in lowland Amazonia, manioc gardens are associated with fertility and sexuality, as places where menstruating women take refuge, unmarried couples have sex, and babies are born. The process of planting hard manioc cuttings in soft, yielding soil is itself seen as full of sexual imagery.

Late November and December is the time when Yuca is harvested.
.

Spiritual Significance

"They call him Yúcahu Bagua Maórocoti" is the earliest mention of the zemí taken from the first page of Fray Ramón Pané's Account of the Antiquities of the Indians.

As the Taíno did not possess a written language, the name is the phonetic spelling as recorded by the Spanish missionaries, Ramón Pané, and Bartolomé de las Casas. The three names are thought to represent the Great Spirit's epithets.

Yúcahu means spirit or giver of Cassava. Bagua has been interpreted as meaning both "the sea" itself and "master of the sea." The name Maórocoti implies that he was conceived without male intervention.
excerpt from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y%C3%BAcahu

Yuca holds a sacred place in our lives as it symbolises fertility and nourishment, one of our sacred items always presented to the zemi and ancestors.

MEDITATION

This Full Moon represents the harvesting of our nourishing Yuca, reaping the rewards of the work put in from the Rainy season of May. We have prayed, worked and now we receive.

Now you have to harvest at the right time, too early the roots will be young not fit for eating, too long and it may become hard or food for pests so the lesson here is also one of discernment to do things in their alotted time and season.

1. Create Sacred Space - Call on your ancestors, your guides, the ways your ancestors would have. Ask them to help focus your mind and heart to the task at hand, so you may be prepared to show yourself worthy for all that you seek, to attract the energy necessary to manifest your desire with the coming seasons.

2. With your eyes closed while standing or sitting on a chair, Take 7 deep inhales and exhales to clear your mind.

3. Bring attention to your breath, with each inhale receiving life giving oxygen from the plants and with each exhale giving them carbon dioxide.

Visualise a beautiful Conuco (garden) filled with Yuca (Cassava). Find yourself by a plant that is pleasing to your spirit, that represents your plant to harvest based on all the work put in this year.

4. As you see the Yuca plant before you, take a deep inhale and open your palms, with a slow steady exhale clench your fist and visualise holding the stem .

Take another deep inhale opening your palm, and with a slow and steady exhale clench your fist and visualise your are pulling the stem to pull out the nourishing Yuca root.

Continue to synchronize your breaths and clenching of fist with your visualisation of pulling the Yuca plants root out from the soil.

5. As you pull see all of the obstacles you have overcome, and allow yourself to fill with gratitude for experiencing another beautiful full moon. As you pull the Yuca root out give thanks to your guides for all of the blessings received now to carry you through to the next full moon and beyond.

6. To close place hands before heart and breathe in deeply that gratitude.

Cohiba Kishibu Kati (Tobacco Full Moon)

Image result for cigar moon

Cohiba Kishibu Kati (Tobacco  Full Moon) will be on November 5th.

Cohiba /Tobacco is a plant that grows natively in the Caribbean, North and South America. It is in the same family as the potato, pepper and the poisonous nightshade, a very deadly plant.

Traditionally, in tropical climates it has been considered that the ideal months to plant tobacco are November and December, since it results in better yield and quality and allows for rain fed cultivation, taking advantage of the rain during this season.

On this Full Moon as it is the season to Plant Cohiba, we honor the spirit of this plant.

Spiritual Significance

In the chronicles of Christopher Columbus’s first voyage –recorded mislabeled in history as the “discovery of America,” he refers that upon arriving in Cuba, his ship was welcomed by canoes steered by men and women who held small bunches of quasi-golden leaves that, given their shape, resembled “muskets lit up on one end” that natives pressed between their lips, delightfully inhaling the aromatic smoke off that exotic plant, totally unknown for the crew at that time.

Those peaceful and innocent people were offering COHIBA to the colonizers as a token of friendship. That used to be their most precious treasure, the underpinning of their lives and a way to communicate with the gods. The Tainos called TOBACCO a two-pronged hollow tubes carved in wood that, unlike the leaves rolled into the shape of a musket, they used to absorb the COHIBA through the nostrils.

That was powder tobacco, what people now call snuff. As Columbus and his men heard the words pronounced by the Tainos, they mixed up the word COHIBA with the instrument called TOBACCO.

Let’s turn time back now to the palenque (party or festival) where the sacred ceremony known as the Cohiba Ritual is about to begin. An areito or ritual chant is being sung as the music fills up the atmosphere. The Kasike (tribe chief) or Behike (medicine man) also acts as the supreme priest. He has inhaled the smoke of the COHIBA, sitting on the ceremonial dujo, a lovely seat that recreates the form of an antediluvian animal. With his head leaning on his chest and his hands on his knees, he remains silent, submerged in somekind of profound trance. When the Kasike or behike begins to speak, his voice sounds celestial and divine. Participants answer out loud to his words, each and every one of them telling what his or her problems are, concerned with the future of the tribe. They are also grateful that the gods –through the Kasike/behike and by means of the Cohiba Ritual- are listening to them and dishing out wise solutions.

Wahayona kishibu Kati

Image result for Yucahu

Yucahu created the moon painting by Jose Guerrido
Wahoyan Kishibu Kati Oct 6 2025

The next full moon is special in the Caribbean for so many reasons, and holds alot of energy.

* The First Full Moon since the Solar Eclipse.

* Full Moon in October the month prone to Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, time to appease Guabancex the cemi of Storms.

* Full Moon in the Month that Colonizers first came to the Caribbean, Colombus landed in Bahamas on October 12 1492.

This Full Moon on October 6h is called Wahayona kishibu Kati, wahayona the person was our first chief in our creation story, the term is also translated as "our pride" and also as "our ancestor/root".

Spiritual Significance

Our tradition is one of honouring ancestors, cycles, spirits of nature and all that we share this life with.

It is important for us to listen with our heart, to spend time finding balance and connecting with the messages that are coming to assist us.

Like the animals and Cemi speak of the coming Huracan (hurricane) and our stories tell of how to appease the spirit of Gubancex so too does or past speak of wisdom, discernment and finding balance.

Let me share of  Kasike Kacibakel (Cacivaquel) .

XXV. Concerning what is alleged to have been said by two principal caciques of the island of Española, one of them Cacivaquel, father of the aforesaid Guarayonel, and the other, Gamanacoel. The great lord who they believe is in heaven (as I wrote at the beginning of this book) ordered Cacivaquel to fast, which they all generally do, staying in seclusion six or seven days at a time without eating or drinking anything except the juice of the herbs with which they also wash themselves. When the fasting period is finished, they begin to take nourishment. During the time of their fast their bodily and mental weakness causes them to see things that they perhaps wanted to see. They all fast in honor of their cemíes, in order to learn from them if they will gain a victory over their enemies, to acquire riches, or to satisfy some other desire. And they say this cacique claimed to have spoken with (Yucahu Guama) Yiocavugama, who had announced to the cacique that those who succeeded to his power would enjoy it only a short time because there would come to his country a people wearing clothes who would conquer and kill the Indians, and that they would die from hunger. At first they thought he referred to the cannibals; later, reflecting that the cannibals only robbed and then went away, they decided he must have meant some other people. That is why they now believe that the idol prophesied the coming of the Admiral and the people who came with him.

Abinaka Kishibu Kati (Dance Full Moon)

Abinaka  Kati (Dance Moon)

The Full Moon for February is the Dance or Yaboa Moon  on February 1st.

This has no connection to the Catholic Saint Valentine or the commercial event that takes place on February 14th.

On the Islands this moon is connected to courting, attracting mates prior to the mating season of March - May (with the coming rains of the Taino New Year marked by the heliacal rising of the Pleiades star system).

The Image above depicts two Yaboa (Yellow Crowned Night Herons) engulfed in a courting display.

Courting Yellow-crowned Night-Herons perform display flights, along with a neck-stretching display: the male slowly raises and then quickly retracts his head while fanning his long shoulder plumes. The female will sometimes reciprocate. They form socially monogamous pairs, and some maintain their bonds from year to year.

Among Taino totems the Caiman (Crocodile) also starts the courting ritual during late January into February.

Courtship takes place in January and February, when males attract females to mate. Courting can last as long as two months. During mating season American crocodiles display territoriality by males engaging each other in competition for access to females. Males roar loudly, raising their heads and opening their mouths, displaying their impressive teeth as part of the mechanism to attract mates. Females respond to male roars with roars of their own.Courtship takes place in January and February, when males attract females to mate. Courting can last as long as two months. Males begin by bellowing above water, while producing low-frequency infrasound, which humans cannot hear. "You can feel the vibrations traveling through the water and you can even see pressure waves," Britton told LiveScience.

Males may also slap their snouts on the water, blow water from their noses or perform certain arched postures. At closer ranges, they may release an oily musk, which floats on the surface of the water, to further entice the female. Though the male is leading the dance, the female is participating with her own set of auditory, visual and olfactory signals during this time. The pair is in constant communication, Britton said

Spiritual Significance

For our Ancestors the records show that for courting There would be exchange of symbolic items  to signify interest in marriage and also to demonstrate that they are equipped to take care of each other .
Like the plants and animals that are preparing for the coming bounty from the rainy season we too spiritually must court and dance in thought, action and deed to attract the experiences we seek.

All forms of Dance hold aesthetic and symbolic value, they are expression of soul and as we have learned from our animal relatives are able to convey the message that we are ready, we are worthy and we are committed to live our life purpose.

MEDITATION

This Full Moon is a time of expression, a time of commitment a time of attracting what we seek.
I encourage practicing a simple ceremony below to help connect with this moment:

1. Create Sacred Space - Call on your ancestors, your guides, the ways your ancestors would have. Ask them to help focus your mind and heart to the task at hand, so you may be prepared to show yourself worthy for all that you seek, to attract the energy necessary to manifest your desire with the coming seasons of abundance.

2. Place your hands over your heart, right hand over left hand. Take 7 deep breaths and visualise with each inhale energy from Atabey (Mother Earth) going into your heart and with each exhale leaving from your being out through your feet to be grounded into the earth.

3. With your eyes close while standing or sitting on a chair, start stomping your left foot, activating the left side of your body which is connected to the right hemisphere of your brain (deals with creativity).

4. As you stomp visualise your spiritual guides around you and with each step hands still on heart see them stepping around you in a clockwise circle.  Allow your stomps to get stronger and in your heart ask them what can you do to strengthen your connection with them.

5.When you feel in your heart it is time to give them thanks for their guidance and the energy given to you. Note the guidance they give may simply be telling you some other physical movement to ad  to your dance.

energy is present 2 days before and 2 days after the Full moon so you have time to practice.
